No. 2693 - Notice served at the request of Sebastiao Nunes, Portuguese merchant in Amsterdam, upon Albert Schuijt, Hans van Soldt de Jonge and Daniel and Johan van Geel, merchants in Amsterdam, who insured goods for Nunes loaded in the ship Nossa Senhora do Rosario of skipper Manuel Alvares Serqueira for ajourney from Lisbon to Bahia de Todos os Santos. This ship left for Bahia on March 18, 1622 but became very leaky near Madeira on April 2. The skipper had no choice but to call at Madeira where the ship was caulked. After its departure on May 24 the ship was seized by French privateers at about 31 degrees on May 28. Four days later the crew was put ashore on Madeira. Empty pipes, just bound with hoops and without iron bands, are sold in Porto at 1000 reis a pipe. The pipes are then shipped to the Canary Islands in the Azores where they are filled with wine and other goods to be sent to Angola, Brazil and elsewhere.
